Merit Health Madison sits in the heart of Madison County between Canton and Madison, MS. Madison County has a rich history and includes some of the state's fastest growing cities, but also has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s.
Canton, Madison County's present county seat, is honored by having its downtown square listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The downtown area, with the newly restored 1855 courthouse, is a thriving business district. It is also home to the world famous Canton Flea Market. Canton also has become the historic setting for many movies including My Dog Skip, A Time to Kill and more.
Agriculture (cotton, soybeans, cattle) is still a part of our thriving industry. However, in recent years, manufacturing and commercial interest have experienced rapid growth and the Madison County business community includes numerous national and international companies and corporate headquarters.
Madison (the city) was once a small farming community, but now is a passport to a community filled with hometown spirit. Madison has small town flavor nestled close to the amenities of a large metro area. Madison also offers an international doorway to business, recreational activities and boasts one of the fastest growing and top rated educational systems in the state of Mississippi. Family Circle Magazine recently named Madison among the top ten towns for raising a family. Madison is also a certified retirement community.
