Lung Cancer Screening
Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, killing approximately 160,000 people per year. If you are a heavy smoker between the ages of 55 to 77, ask your physician about low-dose CT cancer screenings. These screenings are virtually painless and may detect lung cancer at an early stage when it is most treatable.
Criteria for Lung Cancer Screenings
Patients must be between the ages of 55 and 77 and meet either of the following criteria:
- Have a significant smoking habit (Number of packs per day multiplied by number of years smoked)
- Quit smoking less than 15 years ago
Additional Risk Factors
- History of diabetes, heart disease, hypertension or peripheral vascular disease
- Family history of lung cancer
- Personal history of cancer
- Radon exposure
- Occupational exposure to arsenic, asbestos, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, coal smoke, diesel fumes, nickel, silica and/or soot
Candidates cannot have signs or symptoms of lung cancer (chronic cough, coughing blood, shortness of breath) or have been diagnosed with any type of lung
disease.
This service is covered by some insurances. A special rate may be available if not covered by your insurance and you meet the screening criteria.
